PRIDoC 2024 – ‘Ngadluku Warra, Ngadluku Tapa Purruna, Ngadluku Purruna’ (Our Language, Our Culture, Our Health)

The Rural Generalist Coordination Unit (RGCU) attended the Pacific Region Indigenous Doctors Congress (PRIDoC) Conference – PRIDoC 2024, held in Kaurna Country (Adelaide) from 2 to 6 December 2024.

The congress brings together the foremost Indigenous doctors’ member organisations from across the Pacific, including AIDA, ‘Ahahui o nā Kauka, Association of American Indian Physicians, Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC), Medical Association for Indigenous People of Taiwan (MAIPT), and Te Ohu Rata O Aotearoa (Te ORA).

The RGCU proudly sponsored Dr Simone Liddy, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Danila Dilba Health Service, an NT Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. Danila Dilba delivers training and education opportunities to prevocational and vocational rural trainees in Darwin and has been a strong supporter of primary health care rotations through the John Flynn Prevocational Doctor Program. During the conference, Dr Liddy shared her personal career journey and insights with aspiring doctors and delegates, highlighting the unique work and lifestyle opportunities offered in the NT and by the Northern Territory Rural Generalist Program. Dr Liddy described the conference as an excellent platform for fostering meaningful and natural connections.

The RGCU was also honoured to meet the authors of the ‘Traditional Healers of Central Australia ’: Ngangkari book from the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council Aboriginal Corporation. This book is used by the RGCU for promotion through the prize draw offered to delegates when they meet and discuss NT employment and training options at the NT Rural Generalist Program booth.

PRIDoC 2024 was a culturally enriching event, fostering awareness and collaboration. The RGCU connected with interstate stakeholders and international delegates from Canada, Taiwan, Hawaii and New Zealand to explore shared challenges in Aboriginal/Indigenous health and rural generalist practice. The conference embodied the spirit of Ngadluku Warra, Ngadluku Tapa Purruna, Ngadluku Purruna, inspiring all attendees to work toward a healthy future for their community.
